The Brief
Brik Construction appointed MGC to carry out commercial glazing repairs at a private Nuffield Health hospital in London after several double glazed units had failed.
The failed sealed units had developed condensation between the panes, affecting the appearance of the building and reducing visibility through the windows.
During our initial inspection, we also identified two faulty window locking mechanisms that prevented the windows from opening, creating an additional challenge when accessing the glazing.
The project required careful planning because the affected windows were externally beaded and positioned above the hospital’s main entrance.
With the hospital operating seven days a week, all work needed to be completed safely while minimising disruption to patients, visitors and staff.
Our Approach
MGC carried out a detailed site survey to assess the failed glazing, as well as inspecting the existing frames to determine the safest method of replacement.
Following the survey, we specified 5 toughened double glazed sealed units with 18mm white Georgian bars to match the existing windows, along with two replacement commercial window locking mechanisms.
After submitting our survey report and repair proposal, Brik Construction awarded MGC the project based on our knowledge and experience delivering commercial glazing works in high-risk, occupied environments.
Working closely with the Facilities Manager at Nuffield Health, we agreed a safe installation plan before arriving on site.
The main entrance was temporarily closed while hospital staff directed visitors to an alternative entrance, allowing our commercial glazing team to work safely without affecting the day-to-day running of the hospital.

Results
Once the work area had been secured, MGC completed the glazing replacement in approximately 90 minutes.
All 5 failed double glazed units were replaced, the damaged locking mechanisms were renewed and the existing window frames were restored without the need for full window replacement.
The hospital entrance was reopened quickly and we made sure disruption was kept to an absolute minimum. The building was left with clear, fully functioning glazing that matched the original appearance.
