The Brief
MGC was appointed by Sarrani Ltd to replace a damaged oversized double glazed unit at a Jaguar Land Rover dealership in Sidcup, Kent. The glazing formed part of the main showroom entrance, where the curtain wall system provides both a prominent customer entrance and an important architectural feature of the building.
Because the glazing formed part of the existing curtain wall system, the replacement unit had to be produced to the exact original specification. With oversized commercial glazing, precision is critical, leaving little margin for error during installation.
Our Approach
Our glaziers attended the site and carried out a full inspection of the damaged unit and the curtain wall frame. They carried out precise site measurements and confirmed the replacement required an oversized toughened safety glass unit, manufactured to match the original specification and complete with an energy-efficient coating.
Before any work started, MGC provided the full documentation package, including risk assessments, method statements, Gold CSCS cards and NVQ certificates in commercial glazing.

Once the replacement unit returned from the manufacturer, we removed the temporary boarding and prepared the entrance for installation. Weighing over 110kg, the oversized double glazed unit required careful planning, specialist handling equipment and experienced commercial glaziers to safely lift, manoeuvre and accurately position it within the existing curtain wall system.
Precision at every stage was essential to ensure the oversized replacement unit was accurately aligned and securely installed within the existing curtain wall system. Careful attention to every measurement, alignment and fixing point helped maintain the structural integrity, weatherproofing and thermal performance of the glazing.
